Volkswagen has taken a step toward making electric vehicles (EVs) more accessible with the debut of its budget-friendly ID.EVERY1. The concept, showcased in Düsseldorf, Germany, previews a pre-production version of what will become the company’s most affordable EV, set to hit the market in 2027. Details were shared on Volkswagen’s official website.
Drawing inspiration from its “people’s car” heritage, Volkswagen aims to deliver an EV priced at approximately $21,500 (€20,000), bringing electric mobility to a broader audience. The ID.EVERY1 is a compact city car designed as the spiritual successor to the Volkswagen Up hatchback. Measuring 3.88 meters (12.7 feet) in length, it’s slightly larger than its predecessor.

The ID.EVERY1 features a bold design with a high hood, flared fenders, chunky bumpers, and large headlights. A vertical rear window is capped with a spoiler, giving it a distinctive look. Inside, the cabin offers a flattened steering wheel, a slim digital instrument cluster, and a large touchscreen. The hatchback seats four and provides a 305-liter (10.8 cubic feet) trunk.
Built on the new front-wheel-drive MEB Entry platform, the ID.EVERY1 will incorporate innovative software that Volkswagen plans to use across multiple electric models. Powering the vehicle is a 95-horsepower motor, capable of reaching a top speed of 81 mph (130 km/h). While the battery size remains compact, it promises a range of at least 155 miles (250 km), making it a practical choice for urban drivers.
The ID.EVERY1 signals Volkswagen’s commitment to affordable, sustainable transportation as the EV market continues to grow. U.S. consumers can expect more updates as the 2027 launch approaches.
