What Does the ODO Label on a Car’s Dashboard Mean?

Modern cars come with numerous useful features, but sometimes drivers can’t understand the meaning of certain symbols and labels. Experts have highlighted one such option labeled as ODO on the dashboard.

The abbreviation ODO comes from the English word “odometer,” which translates to “distance counter.” The word “odometer” itself has Greek roots, derived from “hodós” – meaning “road.” In the modern automotive world, this term is used to indicate the total mileage of a car since its manufacture.

On the dashboard, ODO is always located next to either a digital or analog mileage counter. In most cars, this indicator appears on the display when selecting the appropriate function on the onboard computer. Depending on the car model and features of its dashboard, ODO might be part of the main screen or a separate digital module.
