As we approach the world premiere of the i7, BMW is stepping up its advertising campaign. Not only that, spy photographers continue to notice previous prototypes that are undergoing final testing. Meanwhile, independent artists are trying to combine the two and the two to accurately depict the electric luxury barge. An illustrative case, Sketch Monkey imagined rival Mercedes EQS shortly after drawing a hypothetical 2023 M3 based on the 3.0 CSL Hommage.
Marouane Bambley, the talented artist behind this digital interpretation, has taken a rather bold approach. He provided the BMW i7 2023 with a polarizing front panel of the Concept XM hybrid SUV. Both the sedan and the special M model will reveal the already controversial design of split headlights. Fans of the brand have expressed concern about the installation, which is not so unusual. Citroën has been using a similar approach since 2013, when it introduced the second-generation C4 Picasso.
If the Concept XM is any sign, BMW is not just going to copy the French brand. The electrified SUV had an interesting headlight configuration with the main clusters almost “hidden” in the bumper, making them much less visible than the upper daytime running lights. Spy photos and teasers of the i7 show that the radiator grille will not be the same as on the SUV, but who knows what was hiding under camouflage.
The XM, which appeared as a production model at the end of the year, had an aggressively angular body. Will this be the case with the next 7 / i7 series? Time will tell. For its price, Sketch of a monkey the rendering doesn’t look half bad, although it’s still hard for us to get used to the bold XM interface.
We believe that BMW will be the boldest in terms of design changes compared to its previous competitors Audi and Mercedes. The i7 will look almost the same as the 7 Series, as both will ride on the same CLAR platform. This is not the case with the S-Class and EQS, as they are completely different models.
