The current BMW 3 Series is ready for LCI upgrades as it approaches the middle of its life cycle. With this update, the G20 3 Series will get a slightly updated exterior style, potentially some technical upgrades inside, and possibly some new color options. In some of the new spy photos, you can see some of these updates, as well as some of its M Performance Parts updates. (We don’t have photos, but you can see them here)
In these new photos, we see the BMW M340i LCI in camouflage front and rear, as well as the exterior additions to the M Performance. How can we say that this is the M340i? The M Performance-style grille insert, which seems to have active grilles, M-style side mirrors and trapezoidal exhausts give it away. This means that it will receive the latest BMW B58 engine, which must have the same 48-volt soft hybrid installation as the M440i.
As for the details of the M Performance, this car clearly has a lower front spoiler, which looks new, and a large fixed rear wing. Such details of M Performance are not something new, but they look cool on the 3rd series.
The LCI exterior updates we see in these photos are new headlights that now lack the G20’s branded recesses. Instead, they now look like the thinner headlights of the 4th series. Although they look good, I personally miss the small G20 recesses. Another addition is the aforementioned M-style side mirror design. The current previous LCI M340i has standard 3 Series side mirrors, but all the latest M Performance cars get the right M Division-style mirrors. Some enthusiasts like this new look, but others think it dilutes the M Division style.
We should see the recently updated G20 3 series sometime later this year, and hopefully it will keep what it likes in the current car, but improve what is missing.
